1. Sustainable Metal Roofing & Wall Panel Seminar
Understanding green initiatives and standards as related to sheet metal and roofing. Energy system integration and sustainable design options for metal. Building with metal: materials, finishes, products and benefits of job site roll forming. Warranties and best practices. Common roof details.
Drainage & Drying Seminars:
1. Drainage & Drying in the Exterior Wall
Determining the best system for managing moisture can be challenging. Many factors such as climate, cladding, and cost should be considered when designing a sustainable wall. This course explores those factors, as well as trends in building codes and best practices.
2. The Wide World of WRBs: Specifying WRBs as part of a high-performance system.
There are a lot of options out there for Water-Resistive Barriers. Determining what’s best for your project can be challenging. This course will help to identify and educate you on best practices and accessories for those options.
Roof Hatch & Smoke Vent Seminars:
1. Roof Hatch & Smoke Vent Design: Life Safety and BIM Integration
This course will explain the benefits of roof hatch and smoke vent design, life safety and BIM integration. The designer will have a better understanding of code regulations for life safety and will be able to properly size and place vents in accordance with these codes. Through an illustration and demonstration on BIM modeling, the designer will be able to better integrate roof hatches and smoke vents into their next project.
Floor Coating Seminars:
Understanding flooring options develop design criteria, installation with timing and process, product offerings with understanding user concerns.
Day Lighting Seminars:
1. Basics of Daylighting in a Green Environment
The use of natural sunlight, known as daylighting, to illuminate a building can save energy, reduce operating costs, create visual appeal, and enhance occupant health and productivity. The U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system encourages the use of daylighting to achieve high-performance buildings. This course provides an introduction to the use of daylighting in commercial spaces. The objective is to show why daylighting should be considered, the basic guidelines of using daylighting and some words of caution when using certain daylighting techniques.
All seminars earn 1 HSW & 1 AIA learning credit
Building Envelope ChoicesType
The importance of proven performance and membrane durability (the longer the roofing system lasts, the less roofing systems end up in a landfill). Understanding the difference between Post-industrial, Pre-consumer and Post-consumer recycling and the benefits of choosing a product that recycles post-consumer back into the new membrane (full circle recycling). A knowledge of the natural fire resistant properties of some roofing membranes and a review of how different fire resistant roofing membranes perform when actually on fire. An understanding of the term "life-cycle" and how specifying a roofing a system that has a low impact on life-cycle is beneficial not only for the environment but an owner’s wallet.
2. Separating Cool Roofing Facts from Myths (NEW)
Understanding the concept of “cool roofing”, how they function and how they are defined and qualified in various energy and environmental codes and standards. Assess the potential environmental impacts of broad implementation of cool roofing strategies. Evaluate the energy benefits of cool roofing materials in northern climates. Review the performance of some cool roofing materials in practice over the past decades.
3. Green Roof Education
The benefits of installing a green roof. Why waterproofing is the most important part of a green roof system. How to obtain points towards LEED certification with a green roof.
4. Choosing the Right Roofing System
Customers will obtain a better understanding of what a single-ply roofing system is and what are the advantages. How membrane formulation and manufacturing differences can play a big impact on the performance of a roofing system. The different types of attachment methods for roofing systems and when to use one versus the other. Important points to consider when choosing the right roofing systems for your project.
5. SBS-Modified Bitumen Membrane Systems
Learn about SBS Modified Bitumen membrane construction and the benefits of utilizing SBS modified asphalts in roofing assemblies.
6. PMMA Liquid Applied Roofing & Waterproofing Systems
PMMA liquid waterproofing applications, aesthetics, colors and the design flexibility of utilizing liquids in waterproofing applications.
